Turn your monthly salary into a clear plan for your goals and your retirement

A steady salary makes it easy to save the same amount every month. Since a private job usually doesn't come with a pension, the money you set aside for retirement is what your later years will depend on — so it's worth starting early.

How this guided plan works for you:

1Pick what you're saving for — a safety fund for 6 months of expenses, a car, a home, your children's needs, and your retirement.
2See what it will really cost — accounting for rising prices by the time you need the money.
3Get a simple monthly plan — see how your monthly savings divide across your goals, with a small raise in savings every year as your salary grows.

FINANCIAL GUIDE

How to Plan Your Financial Goals Early in Your Career in India

Financial planning works best when it starts with goals, not products. Instead of asking 'which fund should I buy?', first ask 'what do I want my money to do, and by when?'. A goal-based plan turns each dream - a safety net, a car, a home down-payment, a wedding, higher education, a child's future or retirement - into a target amount, a deadline and a monthly investment.

Starting early is your biggest advantage. Prices rise every year (typically 5% to 10% in India, and more for education and healthcare), so a goal costing 25 lakh today may cost 40 lakh in a decade. At the same time, compounding rewards time: the same target needs a much smaller monthly SIP when you begin at 25 than when you begin at 35.

This planner turns your goals into a simple visual story. You enter your income and monthly savings budget, tap the goals you care about, and set the cost and timeline of each one. It inflates each cost to the day you need the money, places every goal on a road-map by age, and calculates the monthly SIP for each goal using an asset mix that matches the time horizon: safe debt funds for goals within 3 years, balanced funds for 3 to 7 years and equity for longer goals. Retirement gets a dedicated chapter with the 3-bucket strategy, safe withdrawal rate and historical crash stress-tests.

Goal-Based Planning Benchmarks & Guidelines (India)

ParameterDetails & Guidelines
Savings rateAim to invest 20% or more of take-home income. Early-career savers can start with 10% to 15% and raise it with a yearly step-up.
Emergency fund6 months of expenses in liquid or short-term debt funds before investing for other goals.
Goals within 3 yearsSafe assets: bank FD, liquid or short-duration debt funds. Avoid equity because markets can fall right before you need the money.

Goals beyond 7 yearsGrowth assets: diversified equity index funds with a SIP that steps up 5% to 10% every year.
Goal inflationEducation 8% to 12%, wedding 7% to 8%, home 6% to 8%, general living 5% to 7% per annum.

Goal-Based Planning vs Retirement-Only Planning, and Tools to Go Deeper

Goal-Based Investing (This Planner)

Maps each goal to its own amount, deadline and asset mix. You always know what each SIP is for, which makes it easy to stay invested through market ups and downs.

Single SIP Without Goals

A common mistake: one SIP with no purpose. It is hard to know if you are on track or what to sell when a goal arrives.
